Today in 1913 Mrs Knox, wife of the Bishop of Manchester, opened the Rochdale home of the Waifs and Strays Society in Castlemere Street.

Unemployment

In 1906 on this day the Rochdale Guardians petitioned Parliament in order to call special sessions to deal with the unemployment question.

On the 21st of November 1917 Turners' Choral Society made it's first public appearance at the Provident Hall.
The choir was made up of employees of Turner Bros. Asbestos and Samuel Turner and Co. Ltd. Spotland.
