On this day 12th September 1874

A rather unusual seen was witnessed on the banks of the Roach with several hundreds of persons catching perch, Roach and Piek and various other kinds of fish. For some reason or other the water of the canal, for a certain distance, was let off, and the fish sent on an excursion they never thought of.
